Title: Sunday Night (3/20/2011) Bump
Post by: rnsngshpkng on March 21, 2011, 09:16:40 PM
Hello all! I registered to ask one question:

Last night there was a bump, it was a B&W text only card. It said something along the lines of: "Music we can't get the rights to, but you should download." It then listed around 8-12 artists, two of whom are Four Tet and Thom Yorke.

I would be very appreciative if someone could post the bump, or even another name from the list.

Thank you!

I was a tad confused by that one, since they do have J Dilla and Four Tet, but here's how it went:

Music we can't license for bumps
that you should be downloading

Lykke Li      Mott the Hoople
James Blake   Fleet Foxes
J Dilla      Die Antwoord
The Beatles   Thom Yorke/Burial/Four Tet

It's going up. Regarding J Dilla and Four Tet, I think what they mean is some of their other stuff; for example, a variety of minor labels have released compilations of unreleased J Dilla tracks (most of these on limited pressings and stuff),  and he did stuff for major label artists like Common. Four Tet also has some stuff that's licensed to other labels [as] hasn't done business with yet. I know he released the avant-garde Exchange Sessions on Domino Records as Kieran Hebden (his real name) and Steve Reid (jazz drummer joining him for the sessions). It's also nothing like the Four Tet stuff we know, but that's topic for another different conversation.

[edit] The Thom Yorke/Burial/Four Tet item refers to specific collaborations between the three, released on Four Tet's "Text Records" vanity label.
